Hi!

Windows Live Messenger, Microsoft’s Messenger Client… A Messenger Client, which is all popular among the internet users. It’s tough to come across anyone who has not got a Hotmail or a Windows Live account.

However, there are still some people around the world who doesn’t have a “Hotmail” or a “Windows Live” account, including my cousins & uncles, & most importantly, my dad as well. (LOL :D )

On the other hand so many people are also there who have a “Hotmail” or a “Windows Live” and nothing else! Some examples are there… especially among my new friends, they know who they are. ;)

Microsoft  as one of the Leading Companies in the Software Industry has managed to gain a lot of popularity among people. Microsoft is also one of the companies that also has the most critics. Well,  a Company’s popularity is also counted by its number of Critics, but not necessarily always. :P

So, let’s talk about Windows Live Messenger…

It’s nice, one of the most popular Messenger Clients and most likely to be found on any computer (basically because it comes built in with the Microsoft Windows, especially the XP version). It has a nice GUI (Graphical User Interface). There are many features available apart from fulfilling its duty of, “Instant Messaging” like it has a video calling feature, calling feature and some other miscellaneous actions like “Nudging” that makes the recipient’s Dialog Chat box to Vibrate or Shake up and down and left and right (LOL) and font size, type and color change option and much much more odd stuff (not that odd, really).

But, It also comes with bugs and faults that I have noticed and is the primary reason to why am I writing this Post.
Some of the bugs that I noticed in the recent version i.e. VERSION 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.726)

  • After you IM a friend it, might not necessarily be delivered successfully.
  • If it has not been delivered successfully, it tells you a lot later that “The following “so” and “so” message wasn’t delivered successfully.
  • The above mostly happens when there is Torrent running and not much of free bandwith is left. In other words when the downloads have taken most or all of the connection total speed.
  • The last but not the least. Windows Live Messenger will cost a lot from your hard disk compared to other messenger clients. It will cost you an approximation of 20MB

Now let’s move on to Google Talk and see what it has got.

Google Talk

Google Talk, Google’s IM Client is another good option to go with, as an alternative to WLM. It has many advantages over WLM like

  • It is a very “light” weight messenger client costing only 1.63MB approx. In fact one of the most light weight messenger clients ever!
  • It has a very simple, easy to use interface.
  • Takes less internet bandwith – in other words, you can browse the web faster if you use Gtalk rather than WLM. ( It mostly matters if you have a slow connection)

So “Google Talk” in my opinion is a great messenger client and is awesome when the size is seen. There are of course some drawbacks in this as well. There is no Video Calling feature in this, However Google has a Video Chat Plug In . Which keeps it up.
