Do you wish you knew the tricks to filtering your emails in Outlook, using formulas in Excel, or producing a fantastic, multimedia PowerPoint presentation? The five tips below reveal the secrets to becoming more proficient with MS Office.

1. Understand your objective.

MS Office literally comes with thousands of features, and each new version–Office 2007, Office 2010–brings with it new opportunities to increase productivity, become more creative, analyze data, build reports, and generally function more effectively. Having so many options can be liberating, but it can also be distracting.

Instead of trying to learn everything at once, set your goals based on what would truly make a difference in your life. You may want to get better at editing the kids’ photo albums or home movies. You may want to improve your finances by using some of the functions in Excel. Whatever your objectives, set some goals, achieve them, and move on to other challenges.

2. Know the basics.

One key to increasing your proficiency with MS Office is to understand the basics. Do you know how to open a new document, save, print, and close? Do you know how to close just the window in which you are working without shutting down the whole program? Do you understand the difference between copy/paste and cut/paste, and do you know how to perform those actions? Do you understand how to undo any mistakes you have made?

One advantage to using Microsoft Office is that all of the programs in the suite use a similar layout. Once you understand how to do something in Microsoft Word, you can likely do it the same way in Excel and PowerPoint. Keep in mind that Office 2007 has a different look and feel than previous versions of MS Office.

3. Learn the shortcuts.

After you have learned the basics of MS Office, you can use shortcuts to increase your efficiency and productivity. Some common shortcuts include:

New document — icon looks like a blank piece of paper — CTRL + N
Save document — icon looks like an old-fashioned floppy disk — CTRL + S
Print document — icon looks like a printer — CTRL + P
Undo change — icon looks like an arrow pointing to the left — CTRL + Z
Redo change — icon looks like an arrow pointing to the right — CTRL + Y
Copy highlighted area — icon looks like two documents — CTRL + C
Cut highlighted area — icon looks like scissors — CTRL + X
Paste clipboard contents — icon looks like a clipboard — CTRL + V

To learn the shortcuts for each function, find your action in the Menu bar (for example, “save” is under the “File” command). The shortcut keys are listed next to each command.

4. Review tutorials or take a class.

Becoming a Microsoft Office expert is difficult if you do not recognize all that the programs can accomplish. For example, PowerPoint 2010 allows you to edit movies like Apple’s iMovie and edit images like a basic version of Adobe Photoshop. Excel 2010 spreadsheets can now be published and edited from the web and still retain much of their functionality. MS Word 2010 warns users if their documents have been edited by someone else and comes with a visual outline pane for quick navigation.

Depending on your learning style, you may want to watch video tutorials online, read an MS Office book, or take a class.

5. Practice.

The key to becoming proficient with MS Office is to use it. Each week, try clicking on a new button or a different menu command to see what happens. (Do this in a practice document!) Instead of relying on a paper schedule, trying adding a few meetings to Outlook. Set aside your trusty calculator and perform some calculations in Excel. Try making a simple work presentation in PowerPoint, or set some family photos to music. As you become more comfortable with the software, you will be able to accomplish your tasks more quickly. You will gain confidence and increase proficiency.

John Brook is a huge blog enthusiast and spends a lot of time working with cheap office supplies at a UK company which deals with quality office furniture.

5 Tips for Becoming More Proficient With MS Office is a post from: Extreme Trix

Windows 8 – The First Look!

Microsoft

Windows

microsoft

Hello, folks. The new version is quite cool and stable as I felt. I didn’t use it much, but till the time I used it, I felt good. At least, better than using any other version of Internet Explorer. I’ve being noticing from few hours since the IE 9 is out that Windows users, complaining that they aren’t able to install the new version in their system. Probably, they were downloading it from alternative sites, which had IE for different version or didn’t know that Microsoft has updated their site with IE 9 download details. Whatever, the reason may be, I am posting a small tutorial to install IE on different versions of Windows.

Before getting the Internet Explorer installed, let me tell you that IE9 isn’t available for Windows XP users and make sure you have the original Windows version. If, you don’t have not to worry you can easily Make Windows Genuine in Just a Click.

Steps to install:

Head over to the official Microsoft Windows Internet Explorer Page and click on the blue colored ‘Download now’ button.

Internet Explorer Site

You’ll be redirected to ‘Download Page’ of the Internet Explorer.

IE Download

Select your native language and version of your Windows from right hand side and click on the download button. There are varieties of browsers available like the Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc., which could do all our task very easily.

But recently the Internet field had been changed. Social Media has been involved as an extensive part in it. Therefore, we bring you with a review of the best of best supporting browsers for social media as well as supporting other features also which normal browsers do – RockMelt and Flock, which would help you choose the better one.

Features

RockMelt is a Chrome-based browser heavily integrated with Facebook and Twitter. While on the other hand, Flock has been around for a while, and this year it moved from being Firefox to Chrome based too, cutting its extensive social features back to Facebook and Twitter.

Browser Design

The simplicity of the white background and crisp font on their website gives it a modern feel, makes Rockmelt an absolute great browser to use. On the other hand, Flock’s website, looks like it was made five years ago. In fact, that’s exactly when the browser was initially released. Thus, I am not really impressed with the browser design of Flock.

Social Media Sharing

Social media sharing is very vital these days and With the click of a button, you can share content easily with friends through Flock. You can do the same thing on RockMelt with the click of about four buttons. This makes Rockmelt sometimes back to Flock.

Feed Updates

If updating your status from a sidebar is important to you, I’d go with Flock. But If you are less concerned with status updates and want a more integrated web browser, with a sleek, modern-looking website, I’d go with RockMelt.

Iconic Sidebars

Unlike Flock’s sidebar, which displays a running feed of multiple social networks, RockMelt’s sidebar consists of click able icons for each of your accounts.

Above are just some points. It really depends on the end user what kind of features he would like to adopt under different conditions.

RockMelt and Flock attempt to overhaul what they consider the “archaic” web browser, allowing users to share content more easily and stay connected with friends on Facebook and Twitter.

So, which would you choose as your favorite browser? RockMelt or Flock?

RockMelt or Flock? The type of the network is provided in wireless. It is commonly shared with telecommunication network of specific location and specific vendor. The data transmission is done though the wireless router and the frequency is passed through radio wave. On describing the type of network there are several service categories found. Wireless LAN, wireless PAN, wireless WAN and mobile device networks.

Wireless personal area networks

Wireless personal Area Networks (WPAN) usually connect device into a smaller area with internally. This is confined with connecting of one member. One of the common examples is Bluetooth services. Bluetooth provides a WPAN for connecting in small area like headphone to PC Bluetooth device, PC to mobile connection, data transfer from one device to another device.

Wireless LAN or wireless local area network connects few like two or more devices with each other. And access a single point of internet through it. There are two subtypes of WLAN. One of them is Wi-Fi and the other is fixed wireless data. Wi-Fi is used as 802.11 WLAN and the fixed wireless data implies single point to point connections between networks of two different locations.

Wireless MAN mean wireless metropolitan area networks are a type of networking in broad term used to establish connect ion in a broad space or area like metropolitan cities. Commonly the WiMAX term is used for describing wireless metropolitan area networks. The total coverage is considered in IEEE 802.16d/802.16e.

Wireless WAN or wireless wide area networks that cover all the outdoor area. The network connects to a local office. They can provide 2 to 2.4 GHz bandwidth. The total system contains station gateways, access point and relay.

Increasing mobile phone usage

Due to increase mobile phone usage cellular networks start wireless network base internet service. There are three subtypes. One of them is GSM that is global system form mobile communications. It includes switching, base station, operating system. The cell phone connects to all of these three things step by step. Other subtype is PCS that’s Personal Communications service. It is a radio band that can be used not much area usually in America and south Asian countries. The last subtype is D-AMPS that are digital advanced mobile phone services.

The ultimate destiny of the wireless networking is to connect all together in a single point. A common channel is used to connect to internet all over the provided area. Some services are costly while some are cheap. It varies from countries to countries on based of the supply by the vendor.

Disadvantage of wireless network

The most dangerous thing of wireless networking is the attack and damage of locally stored data in local PCs by the hackers. The security system has to be high enough to control and protect the service. The bad effects of Wireless communication are the radiation that can cause harm to cell as well as to nervous system. So we should have to concern about the service as well as about our health. And necessary steps should be taken to prevent it.

Wireless routers

Wireless routers are used to connect the wireless drive with the service providers. These are used as media of connectivity only. They are in different value and different range. So the prize and quality also varies from each. Top 10 wireless routers are Cisco Linksys E3000, Cisco Valet plus, Netgear WNDR3700 Range max dual band, D-link DIR-615 wireless N router, netgear wireless router WNR2000, Novatel wireless MiFi 2200, D-link xtreme n storage Router DIR-685, Belkin N+ wireless router, D-link xtreme N dual band gigabit router DIR-825.

Security of the networking is very important. On network security certification there are some certificates that have to pass on the wireless service. By which primary security module can be maintained all over the network are.

<Image Credits>

Beginners’ Guide to Wireless Networking. is a post from: Extreme Trix

Make Windows 7 Genuine in Just a Click.

Applications

Hacks

Reviews

Tricks

Crack

Windows

A year back, a history was created in the segment of the Technology world; Windows 7 was released worldwide. No doubt that it was (and even it is) one of the best operating systems in the World with a competition with Apple’s Mac. Before the launch, its stunning graphics, cool features and the hard work Microsoft Team did even make the company itself; Microsoft to release a site to allow everyone to experience Windows 7 online without buying it and then the RT builds.

With a sale of 240 million legal copies of Windows in a year, still more than 40% of the PC users still have the pirated Windows 7 or the RT builds installed in their Pcs, which surely would only not increase the risk of getting infected by Viruses, but would also not give them a right to enjoy Windows Updates and newly launched features. Updates and features are other case, but in the pirated cases Windows also starts showing a ‘Remove WGA’ message, which seriously sucks and could surely annoy big time anyone, while he is operating the PC.

If you are one of the users, you would know that how does it feels. Well, being honest I was once one too. Today here at Extreme Trix, I am going to share about an application, just a small one, which can help you make your Windows 7 genuine easily without taking much time.

HOW TO –

Making Windows genuine is easy could make your PC better, but remember it is illegal and Microsoft could sue you for it, maybe with or without notice. We do not support piracy, being geeks I used this software to just extend my trial period and see whether Windows 7 is crack (able) or not. TRY THIS ON YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY.

‘RemoveWat‘ is the name of the application, which is developed by Hazar and nononsence and could easily make Windows 7 genuine in just one click without any further process or something. It helps remove Windows Activation Technologies (also known as WAT files) from the Pcs to make the Windows genuine by which you can validate the Windows. It’s totally free, virus free and works like a charm.

Make Windows 7 Genuine in Just a Click. is a post from: Extreme Trix

[List] Seven Best Open Source Security Tools.

Applications

List

Reviews

Linux

OS

Windows

We have the open source software movement to thank for a variety of amazing computing tools. Unfortunately, the spammers are always finding new ways to sneak their scams and non sequiturs into our inboxes. Thankfully, SpamAssassin by Apache is on the lookout. SpamAssassin is a wide-spectrum spam detection tool, which means that it uses both local and network tests to weed out spam. SpamAssassin has a devoted following, in large part because of how easy it is to configure, and how it will work on just about any e-mail client and on just about any platform. There are loads of different versions, too. Check out the website to see what’s available.

Also Read: How to know if a link is safe to visit or not?

2. ClamAV (Free, Windows / Linux)

The only thing more painful than suffering data loss or theft as a result of computer viruses is having to shell out the heaps of cash necessary to pay for commercial anti-virus software like Norton and McAfee. Fortunately, the good folks behind ClamAV, also known as Clam Anti Virus, have the answer. ClamAV is a toolkit for UNIX, and it scans for viruses on e-mail gateways with a command-line scanner and a fast, multi-threaded daemon, among other features. Confused by the jargon? Not to worry: ClamAV is easy to set-up and there is a helpful community willing to help troubleshoot, should anything go wrong.

3. IPCop (Free, Linux only)

IPCop is a firewall distribution aimed at small businesses and home offices. Though Linux users tend to be very tech-savvy, IPCop takes no chances: the web interface is very intuitive and easy to use. Best of all, IPCop is free, something that cost-cutting small business owners will be very glad to hear.

4. SmoothWall Express (Free, Linux only)

Like IPCop, SmoothWall Express is a Linux-based firewall distribution, and like IPCop, it is also free and open source. The similarities do not end there. SmoothWall Express is very easy to install and configure, and it is very light on system resources. Even older machines will be able to run SmoothWall with ease. If you own a small business, have almost no budget for IT expenses, and need a solid and reliable firewall solution, give IPCop and SmoothWall Express a try to see which is right for you.

5. OpenVPN (Free for two clients, Windows / OS X / Linux)

A virtual private network, or VPN, is an excellent cost-saving tool in its own right. A VPN allows a business to use the pre-existing infrastructure of the internet to host and access a private organizational network. This means a business no longer has to pay for costly private lines. OpenVPN takes the savings even further, by eliminating the need to pay for expensive proprietary VPN software. OpenVPN is easy to use and available on every platform imaginable. Try it for free on up to two clients.

6. Untangle (Plans starting at free, no operating system required)

Untangle is yet another firewall solution for small businesses. Like IPCop and SmoothWall Express, Untangle is free to use. Unlike the others, however, Untangle also offers paid plans that grant more control and more web filtering options. What also sets Untangle apart is that it does not require any operating system to run: Untangle requires a dedicated PC, and during the installation process it will install its own operating system. Untangle’s paid plans are free to try for two weeks, so give it a shot– you have nothing to lose.

7. SpamPal (Free, Windows only)

SpamPal is a lightweight anti-spam tool for windows, and makes a fine alternative to SpamAssassin if you want something a little more basic. SpamPal is a mail classification program that works for all POP3 and IMAP e-mail accounts, and it has dozens of plugins available in a variety of languages. Like everything else in this list, SpamPal is free to use.

This is a guest post by Kip, who writes about technology for one of the leading broadband comparison websites based in Australia where users can find exhaustive overviews of mobile broadband plans.
